About The Position

The General Supervisor is responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the department. This position provides leadership and direction to supervisors and team members in operations, maintenance, and quality. Support personnel as needed to achieve production, safety, quality, and reliability goals. The General Supervisor is accountable for workforce development, production performance, equipment reliability, preventive maintenance execution, regulatory compliance, cost control, and continuous improvement initiatives. This role ensures effective communication and coordination between departments/crews and develops employees through coaching and accountability. Drives operational excellence while maintaining a safe and productive work environment. The Rendering General Supervisor bridges the gaps between shifts.

Requirements

  • Must have a High School Diploma or a GED equivalent qualification from an accredited institution
  • 2-3 years rendering experience
  • 3-5 years of supervisory experience
  • Well developed management skills utilizing sound management principles in leading a team of employees
  • Proven ability to train and motivate personnel
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence
  • Ability to effectively manage time and meet all specified deadlines
  • Ability to read and interpret documents in the English language such as safety files, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with USDA, production and management personnel
  • Ability to apply mathematical applications to practical situations
  • Ability to solve practical problems
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
  • Ability to use computers and all standard programs used by the industry and the ability to learn and effectively use all other computer programs that are or will be made available

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop supervisors, utilities, operators, and maintenance personnel to improve performance and engagement.
  • Conduct employee performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and corrective action when necessary.
  • Ensure staffing levels are adequate to meet production and maintenance requirements while controlling labor costs.
  • Facilitate department meetings to communicate goals, expectations, performance metrics, and key initiatives.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Establish and clearly communicate realistic job requirements for subordinates; provide frequent feedback and review on performance and accurately appraise performance results against communicated expectations and when necessary, take action to resolve performance or work habit deficiencies.
  • Enforcing compliance with Government regulations
  • Ensure product quality standards are maintained, and corrective actions are taken when deviations occur.
  • Assist in developing and managing departmental budgets. Review operational expenses and identify opportunities for cost reduction.
  • Ensure compliance with all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, environmental requirements, and food safety standards.
  • Conduct routine safety audits and inspections to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Ensure employees are properly trained and qualified to perform assigned duties safely.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other departments in plant in establishing and carrying out responsibilities.
  • Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, quality of product, changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of department, or work crew.
  • Analyze and resolve work problems or assist workers in solving work problems.
  • Lead root cause analysis sessions when necessary to resolve problems and potential future risk.
  • Maximize production yields; efficiencies and insures adherence to product specifications
  • Conduct high level of cleanliness techniques.
  • Facilitate employee monthly meetings/training sessions.
  • Review upcoming maintenance activities and projects to verify all required parts, materials, tools, and contractor resources are available before scheduled work begins.
  • Ensure parts and materials for weekend maintenance activities are identified, staged, and ready for execution prior to the start of scheduled downtime.
  • Develop and maintain a critical spare parts inventory program to minimize equipment downtime and production interruptions.
