Responsible for assessing, counseling, referral and supportive services to patients and their families in a manner consistent with professional standards and institutional mission and policies. Collaborates with physicians, medical professionals and other staff to ensure the quality of care given. Provides care for the adult or geriatric patient (as defined in the unit scope of care). Utilizes knowledge of the principles of growth and development appropriate to the patient’s age to ensure that psychosocial needs of the patient are met. Involves appropriate parties (i.e. patient’s family or guardian, outside agencies) in the psychosocial care of the patient as needed.
