About The Position

Turing is hiring a Software Engineering evaluator to create datasets for training, benchmarking, and advancing large language models in collaboration with researchers. The work centers primarily on Python across backend services, data pipelines, and ML infrastructure, with additional code involving JavaScript (including ReactJS), C/C++, Java, Rust, and Go. The evaluator will curate code examples, develop precise solutions, correct code, and evaluate and refine AI-generated code for efficiency, scalability, and reliability. The role also involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to improve enterprise AI coding solutions, building Python agents and automated verification tools, assessing model capabilities across the software engineering lifecycle, and designing mechanisms to automatically verify task solutions. The role is intended for candidates with several years of software engineering experience, particularly experience building production systems at high-scale engineering organizations. The engagement is flexible, requiring at least 10 hours per week and allowing up to 40 hours per week. It is a contractor role lasting one month, with possible extensions based on performance and fit. Candidates must be based in the United States. The application process takes 15–30 minutes and requires completion of an AI video interview.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of software engineering experience.
  • Strong Python expertise, including deep knowledge of frameworks, tooling, and best practices for production-grade software.
  • Experience building full-stack applications and deploying scalable software using modern languages and tools.
  • Deep understanding of software architecture, design, development, debugging, and code quality and review assessment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills for providing clear, structured evaluation rationales.
  • Must be based in the United States.
  • Must complete an AI video interview as part of the application process.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building production systems at companies such as Google, Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, Meta, or similar high-scale engineering organizations.
  • Graduation from a top computer science program such as Stanford, MIT, Carnegie Mellon, UC Berkeley, Georgia Tech, or a comparable institution.

Responsibilities

  • Curate code examples, develop solutions, and correct code for AI model training initiatives, primarily in Python and also in JavaScript (including ReactJS), C/C++, Java, Rust, and Go.
  • Evaluate and refine AI-generated code for efficiency, scalability, and reliability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve AI-driven coding solutions against industry performance benchmarks.
  • Build Python agents and automated verification tools to assess code quality and identify error patterns.
  • Evaluate model capabilities across stages of the software engineering cycle, including prototyping, architecture and API design, implementation, launch, experiments, monitoring, and operational maintenance.
  • Design verification mechanisms that automatically validate solutions to software engineering tasks.
