About The Position

Skyline Veterinary Specialists, a BluePearl Pet Hospital, is hiring experienced RELIEF Veterinary Technicians to work in our busy Emergency and Critical Care department. This role involves inducing, monitoring, and recovering anesthesia, triaging emergency cases, performing digital radiography, and understanding normal patient vital signs. The technician will also be responsible for calculating medical math, administering medications, performing phlebotomy, placing catheters, and mentoring coworkers. A passion for client communication and empathy is also important.

Requirements

  • Experienced Relief Veterinary Technicians
  • Proficiency in inducing, monitoring, and recovering anesthesia.
  • Ability to triage emergency cases and obtain vital signs.
  • Skill in performing digital radiography with proper technique and positioning.
  • Complete understanding of normal patient vital signs.
  • Ability to interpret vital signs and alert veterinarians to changes.
  • Capability to identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
  • Proficiency in medical math calculations, including CRIs.
  • Ability to administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
  • Proficiency in performing phlebotomy.
  • Skill in placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
  • Ability to place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.

Responsibilities

  • Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
  • Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
  • Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
  • Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
  • Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
  • Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
  • Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
  • Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
  • Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
  • Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
  • Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.
