About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Malvern, PA is hiring an experienced Relief Veterinary Technician to work in our busy Emergency and Critical Care department. This role is for a technician who loves emergency cases, providing care and comfort to critically ill or injured patients, and is committed and passionate about enriching lives through remarkable care for pets. The position offers a pay band dependent on experience and advancement through a leveling system, with potential for higher compensation for candidates with VTS credentialing. Competitive shift differential pay is also offered for eligible hours worked during nights and weekends.

Requirements

  • Experienced Relief Veterinary Technician
  • Experience in Emergency and Critical Care
  • Ability to induce, monitor and recover anesthesia
  • Proficiency in using anesthesia/monitoring equipment
  • Ability to triage emergency cases and obtain vital signs
  • Proficiency in digital radiography and patient positioning
  • Complete understanding of normal patient vital signs
  • Ability to obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs
  • Ability to identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR
  • Proficiency in medical math calculations (including constant rate infusions)
  • Ability to administer medications via appropriate routes and duration
  • Proficiency in performing phlebotomy
  • Proficiency in placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels
  • Ability to place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters
  • Passion for mentoring and training co-workers
  • Patience and empathy to address client concerns

Responsibilities

  • Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
  • Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
  • Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
  • Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
  • Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
  • Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
  • Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
  • Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
  • Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
  • Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
  • Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.
