About The Position
Vetco, a division of Petco, is seeking independent veterinary contractors to provide relief veterinarian services. This role offers significant career flexibility and the opportunity to improve pet healthcare accessibility in the community. You will have the freedom to choose your shifts, set your own rates, and enjoy a work-life balance with no minimum or maximum shift requirements. Vetco provides a supportive environment with trained staff to manage operations, allowing you to focus on patient care. The role involves working at either Vetco Vaccination Clinics (wellness exams, preventive care, vaccinations, microchipping) or Vetco Total Care Hospitals (preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, dental procedures). Both models utilize an appointment-based system to manage traffic and ensure timely departures. Hospitals are equipped with advanced technology, including digital records, ultrasound, digital X-ray, AI interpretation, and on-site labs. No overnights or emergency on-call duties are required.
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
- Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including the ability to perform blood draws and administer vaccines.
- Ability to provide Professional Liability Insurance + license defense policy.
- Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.

- DEA in good standing preferred for full-service Vetco Total Care hospital relief shifts.
Responsibilities
- Perform wellness examinations, preventive vaccinations, and administer medications at Vetco Vaccination Clinics.
- Conduct heartworm testing and microchip insertion at Vetco Vaccination Clinics.
- Provide preventive care and diagnostic workups at Vetco Total Care Hospitals.
- Perform outpatient surgeries and dental procedures at Vetco Total Care Hospitals.
- Partner with the area medical director to review case comfort levels before shifts at Vetco Total Care Hospitals.
- Deliver high-quality veterinary care and patient experience.
- Adhere to all local, state, and federal mandates.
