About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians the opportunity to work in two settings: Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. The position offers flexible online scheduling, with no minimum or maximum number of shifts, and weekday and weekend shifts. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift, may continue practicing outside Petco shifts, and pay no agency fees. An appointment-based model helps manage patient flow, and trained staff handle operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Veterinarians receive clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements through a monthly newsletter, plus a 15% discount on Petco products and services.

Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency care, or illness care. Most are located inside Petco stores, with some operating from mobile vans.

Vetco Total Care hospitals offer preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Their equipment includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and surgery suites with heated hydraulic tables and anesthesia monitoring. Hospital staff are licensed and trained, and there are no overnight or emergency on-call shifts.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
• Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including the ability to perform blood draws and administer vaccines.
• DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• Ability to provide professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
• Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• Perform shift functions appropriate to the location, including blood draws and vaccine administration where applicable.
• Provide preventive and diagnostic care, and procedures appropriate to the services offered at the selected setting.
