About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians shifts in two settings: Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Relief veterinarians use flexible online scheduling to select shifts that fit their lifestyle; there is no minimum or maximum number of shifts. Weekday and weekend shifts are available, veterinarians set their own rate for each shift, and they may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts without agency fees. The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and supports leaving on time, while trained staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on care. Petco also provides a monthly newsletter with clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements, plus a 15% discount on Petco products and services.

Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Most are located in Petco stores, with some operating from mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Hospital equipment includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and surgery suites with heated hydraulic tables and anesthesia monitoring. Hospital staff are licensed and trained, and relief shifts do not include overnight or emergency on-call work. The services operate in 48 states.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
• Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
• DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• Ability to provide Professional Liability Insurance and a license defense policy.
• Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.
