About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians opportunities in two settings: Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Veterinarians can choose shifts through flexible online scheduling, with no minimum or maximum shift requirement and weekday and weekend options. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift, may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, and pay no agency fees. The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and supports leaving on time. Trained, experienced staff handle operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Petco provides a monthly newsletter with clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements, as well as a 15% discount on Petco products and services. Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement; they do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Locations are primarily inside Petco stores, with some in mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Hospital equipment includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and surgery suites with heated hydraulic surgery tables and full anesthesia monitoring. Licensed and trained hospital staff support care delivery, and there are no overnight or emergency on-call shifts.

Requirements

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including the ability to perform blood draws and administer vaccines.
DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
Ability to provide Professional Liability Insurance and a license defense policy.
Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.

Responsibilities

Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
At full-service hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
Perform shift functions in compliance with applicable local, state, and federal mandates.
