About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services is seeking relief veterinarians to work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. The role offers flexible online scheduling, with no minimum or maximum number of shifts and weekday and weekend hours available. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift and may continue practice activities outside their Petco shifts, with no agency fees.

The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and supports on-time departures. Trained staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Relief veterinarians receive a monthly newsletter with clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements, and a 15% discount on Petco products and services.

Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Most clinics are located in Petco stores, with some in mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals offer preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Hospital facilities include digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and equipped surgery suites. There are no overnight or emergency on-call shifts.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
• Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including the ability to perform blood draws and administer vaccines.
• DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• Ability to provide professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
• Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
• At full-service hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
• Perform blood draws and administer vaccines as required for shift functions.
• Comply with applicable local, state, and federal mandates.
