About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians the opportunity to work in two distinct settings: Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. This role provides flexible online scheduling with no minimum or maximum shift requirements, offering a variety of weekday and weekend hours. Relief veterinarians have the freedom to set their own compensation rates and incur no agency fees, allowing them to continue other practice activities outside of Petco shifts. The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow, ensuring timely departures, while trained, experienced staff handle operations. The position also includes a monthly newsletter for important clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements, and a 15% discount on all Petco products and services. Vetco Vaccination Clinics focus on basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement, primarily located within Petco stores or advanced mobile van units, and do not offer surgeries, emergency, or illness care. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide a full range of services, including preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures, equipped with advanced tools like digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and fully equipped surgery suites, including heated hydraulic surgery tables and full anesthesia monitoring. These hospitals operate with licensed and trained staff and do not require overnight or emergency on-call shifts.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing
• Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions including the ability to perform blood draws & administer vaccines
• DEA in good standing required for full-service Vetco Total Care hospital relief shifts
• Ability to provide Professional Liability Insurance + license defense policy
• Compliance with all local state and federal mandates

Responsibilities

• Perform basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement in Vetco Vaccination Clinics
• Provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures in Vetco Total Care hospitals
• Perform blood draws and administer vaccines
