About The Position
Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians the opportunity to work in two settings: Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Relief veterinarians provide veterinary care in locations across the country, with services varying by setting. Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement; they do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Relief veterinarians can schedule shifts online with no minimum or maximum shift requirement, choose from weekday and weekend hours, and set their own rate for each shift. They may continue practicing outside their Petco shifts, with no agency fees. The appointment-based model supports patient flow and timely departures, while trained staff handle clinic operations. Veterinarians receive monthly updates about clinic news, policies, and products, and a 15% discount on Petco products and services. Total Care hospitals do not require overnight or emergency on-call shifts.
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.
- State veterinary license in good standing.
- Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
- DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at Vetco Total Care hospitals.
- Professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
- Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.
Responsibilities
- Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
- At Vaccination Clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
- At Total Care hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
- Perform shift functions in accordance with applicable state-specific licensing and local, state, and federal mandates.
