About The Position

Vetco, a division of Petco, is seeking independent veterinary contractors to provide relief veterinarian services. This role offers significant career flexibility and the opportunity to improve pet healthcare accessibility. You will have the freedom to choose your shifts, set your own rates, and enjoy a work-life balance with no minimum or maximum shift requirements. Vetco operates an appointment-based model, supported by trained staff, allowing you to focus on patient care. The role involves working at either Vetco Vaccination Clinics (wellness exams, preventive care, vaccinations, microchipping) or Vetco Total Care Hospitals (preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, dental procedures). Hospitals are equipped with advanced technology, and licensed staff are available. There are no overnights or emergency on-call duties.

Requirements

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including the ability to perform blood draws and administer vaccines.
Ability to provide Professional Liability Insurance + license defense policy.
Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.

Nice To Haves

DEA in good standing preferred for full-service Vetco Total Care hospital relief shifts.

Responsibilities

Provide relief veterinarian services at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care Hospitals.
Conduct wellness examinations, administer preventive vaccinations and medications.
Perform heartworm testing and microchip insertion.
Conduct diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures at Total Care Hospitals.
Partner with the area medical director to review case comfort levels for Total Care Hospital shifts.
Deliver high-quality veterinary care and patient experience.
Focus on patient care while staff manage operations and transactions.
