About The Position

Primary Purpose: To provide consistent and deliberate teacher coverage; provide students with appropriate learning activities and experience designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth; and enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree from an accredited university with teacher certification preferred; Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Education, the humanities, or in fields focusing upon subjects within the core curriculum; or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university and previous experience in promoting social, educational, or supportive services for school aged children
Completion of HCDE’s Substitute Orientation program
Effective and efficient oral and written communication skills
Available to perform the responsibilities of the position (up to 5 days per week)

Responsibilities

Comply with all state and federal laws, department and campus policies and procedures.
Maintain and respect confidentiality of student and school personnel information.
Maintain discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff in accordance with school and county policies.
Ensure adequate supervision to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students.
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Report all student injuries, accidents, illnesses and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible and in a manner which motivates students to learn and participate.
Implement lesson plans, while ensuring the integrity of academic time and in a manner which motivates students to learn and participate.
Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
Assist in managing the behavior of students and crisis intervention, including restraining disruptive or dangerous physical behaviors.
Conduct physical student searches.
Establish and maintain order in the classroom.
Maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
Organize students for effective instruction.
Cooperate with all school and department personnel.
Perform other duties as assigned.
