About The Position

The Relief Operating Engineer is responsible for managing the operation of the steam plant and air conditioning chiller system according to state laws through usage of a computer-based control system. This role involves maintaining the boiler room, monitoring energy management systems, conducting inspections and testing, and performing water tests. The position requires recording operating data, maintaining a shift logbook, and updating the relieving engineer and Chief Engineer on plant status. Additionally, the role supports diversity and inclusion, requires basic computer skills, and may involve other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • First Class B Stationary Engineer License
  • 3+ years’ work experience with boiler operation and maintenance
  • Basic skills in using standard office equipment and computer applications, including email, word processing, spreadsheet, and database, or willingness to learn.

Nice To Haves

  • First Class A Operating Engineer License
  • Prior experience with a variety of power and hand tools.

Responsibilities

  • Manage operation of the steam plant and air conditioning chiller system according to state laws through usage of a computer-based control system.
  • Recharge chemical tanks.
  • Recharge water softeners.
  • Maintain boiler room physical condition: paint, sweep, mop, etc.
  • Report equipment failure and changes in machinery status.
  • Monitor Energy Management Systems (EMS) computer.
  • Direct alarms to proper department.
  • Conduct routine inspections and testing.
  • Conduct heating plant inspections.
  • Inspect equipment on a regular and continuous basis.
  • Update relieving engineer of changes in plant status.
  • Notify Chief Engineer of significant changes.
  • Perform water tests.
  • Record operating data.
  • Maintain shift logbook as required.
  • Transfer all needed data to new log sheets.
  • Support, respect, and commit to embracing diverse backgrounds, values, and points of view to build a strong and inclusive community.
  • Complete and meet deadlines for required training and performance management cycle.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
