About The Position

The Engineering Coop Program within North American Construction Group (NACG) offers valuable exposure to heavy equipment reliability and maintenance engineering. This role is for a Reliability Engineer student based in Acheson, Alberta, located 10 minutes west of Edmonton. To be considered, applicants must be currently pursuing a Mechanical Engineering Degree, though other Engineering disciplines will be considered. The Acheson location includes both the head office and a maintenance shop, which is the central point for maintaining NACG's fleet of over 600 heavy equipment pieces. NACG is committed to developing future leaders and has a history of hiring graduating students from its co-op program, viewing it as a pathway to potential permanent employment. The program encourages growth and development for students entering the workforce.

Requirements

  • Currently working towards a Mechanical Engineering Degree (other Engineering disciplines will be considered).
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Aptitude or keen interest in machinery or heavy equipment.
  • Must hold a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
  • Ability to work in an office environment with some light shop exposure.
  • Undergo and successfully pass pre-employment testing including Breath Alcohol Test and Urine Drug Test (if chosen for a site-based role).

Responsibilities

  • Work under the direction of the Superintendent of Reliability to reduce operating and maintenance costs of the NACG heavy equipment fleet through maintenance and component improvements.
  • Develop, improve, and maintain maintenance systems and processes to increase equipment availability and reduce operating costs.
  • Assist in the analysis of component change-outs to improve component reporting and forecasting.
  • Generate and maintain preventative maintenance schedules for all equipment.
  • Assist in failure analysis and the creation of reports on equipment components and systems.
  • Interpret condition monitoring data (e.g., Unit travel data, oil sample data) and recommend practical interventions.
  • Provide assistance and act as a technical resource for onsite maintenance personnel in troubleshooting or repairing equipment.
  • Identify reliability project opportunities and collaborate with 3rd party/vendor engineers and technical specialists to implement solutions.
