About The Position

The Reliability Engineer under general direction or working independently will help maintain plant assets and provide reliability-based maintenance planning. This position is focused on the improvement of the daily work force productivity and work quality by anticipating and eliminating delays through planning and coordination of manpower, parts and materials and equipment access. This position will review and determine the functionality of preventative maintenance activities and conduct failure analysis to identify and prevent future failures. Outage planning and work will also be part of the responsibility of this engineer.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the equipment, methods and materials used in the repair and maintenance of a power plant facility.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of theory and relationships between components in power generation process.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of various types of boilers and associated auxiliary systems in a power plant.
  • Demonstrated client relationship skills at all levels, leadership ability, technical excellence and management skills, as well as strong project planning and budgeting skills.
  • Must have a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Excellent project management skills and organizational skills.
  • Skill in reading, interpreting, and analyzing information from instruments, charts, and schematic drawings as applicable.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining good working relationships with co-workers and outside agencies.
  • Skill in developing, implementing and overseeing through completion both long and short-term project plans.
  • Skill in resolving problems or situations requiring the exercise of good judgment.
  • Skill in preparing clear and concise written reports.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner with plant employees at all working and management levels.
  • Ability to recognize operational inconsistencies and hazards in the work place and display proper judgment in dealing with them appropriately.
  • Familiarity with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers code.
  • Solid understanding of project scheduling and software.
  • Working knowledge of micro-soft office programs (Word, Excel, Power point, etc.).
  • Ability to receive, comprehend and utilize OSHA required training.
  • Ability to ascend and descend stairs and stationary vertical ladders as part of normal work activity and emergency egress situations.
  • Ability to work in contrasting plant environments.
  • Ability to move about all areas of the plant, including catwalks, deck grating, wet and muddy areas, and uneven surfaces.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of five (5) years' experience as a reliability engineer in a power plant facility is preferred.
  • A professional engineering license is desired.
  • Experience with SAP software a strong plus.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates daily with other plant management regarding day to day operating and maintenance conditions.
  • Conducts engineering analysis and develops recommendations to maintain and improve generating plant efficiency, reliability, safety and environmental compliance and cost performance.
  • Functions as the primary liaison between production and maintenance while planning, scheduling and coordinating the preventative maintenance work performed on the plant.
  • Maintains the records and files essential to the meaningful analysis and reporting of maintenance related matters.
  • Helps maintain plant assets and provide reliability-based maintenance outage planning.
  • Reviews and determines the functionality of Preventative Maintenance activities.
  • Conducts failure analysis to identify and prevent future failures.
  • Makes meaningful improvements in average time between failures.
  • Coordinates with plant staff to develop the scope of work, specifications and justifications for outage projects.
  • Develops/reviews material specifications, drawings, contracts and work scopes.
  • Performs detailed studies and calculations of component/system reliabilities.
  • Provides analytical and financial analysis for Capital Projects and required system upgrades.
  • Works jointly with operations and maintenance to continuously identify, develop and implement strategic preventative and predictive maintenance programs for the facility.
  • Works with plant engineer to help perform root cause and cost benefit analysis on performance deficiencies.
  • Provides technical support and direction to contractors.
  • Prepares daily, weekly and monthly reports, maintains records and composes correspondence as required.
  • Works with the Maintenance Superintendent in reviewing procedures and investigating operating incidents and abnormalities in order to make recommendations for future equipment purchases.
  • Examines objects, systems or facilities, and analyzes information to determine needed installations, services or repairs.
  • Identifies and develops or arranges for worker training on repair and maintenance techniques, operational procedures, or equipment use for new equipment and operational procedures.
