This role is responsible for not just for executing tests, but for owning reliability intent across the product lifecycle—from early concept through post‑market. The ideal candidate is a systems thinker who uses physics, data, and regulation to proactively protect patients while enabling disciplined product execution across the full lifecycle. As a Reliability and Test Engineer focused on electrical and mechanical testing, you will play a key role in improving the reliability of the Monarch robotic system across development testing, manufacturing, and field use with the goal to optimize the design for best-in-class lifetime customer experience.

Requirements

  • Early in career candidate with a BS or MS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a related technical field is required.
  • Demonstration of a complex multidisciplinary project involving design and test
  • Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills are a must.
  • Presentation capabilities that can be tailored anywhere from peer to team-level.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team setting.
  • Must be self-directed, self-motivated and able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.
  • Knowledge and ability to interpret and follow applicable regulations, guidelines, and policy statements is required.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 10% of the time.

Nice To Haves

  • Deep command of physics‑of‑failure (PoF): fatigue, corrosion, creep, wear, dielectric breakdown, solder & interconnect failure.
  • Hands-on experience with: HALT / HASS ALT / Accelerated Stress Testing Weibull, lognormal, and exponential modeling Confidence & reliability growth (Duane, AMSAA)
  • Ability to translate field reliability targets (e.g., 1 ppm failure over X years) into design inputs and test strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Designing requirement and tests that target failure mechanisms.
  • Ensuring verification demonstrates safety and effectiveness and not just requirement closure.
  • Plan and execute reliability testing at the sub-assembly and system levels for the Monarch robotic system, partnering with cross-functional teams to bring prototypes to market.
  • Design, build, and validate custom test fixtures and test methods to enable repeatable, controlled testing.
  • Conduct test data analysis, and clearly communicate test results, and collaborate with design engineers to resolve issues detected in testing.
  • Facilitate test failure root cause analysis to understand the root cause, failure mechanisms (mechanical, electrical, material, biological) and drive resolution and corrective actions for failures originating in testing
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with design, reliability, and manufacturing engineers to suggest design and/or process improvements and address
  • Analyze field performance and identify trends in failure across various sub-systems.
  • Perform life data analysis, identify risk areas, and implement process or design changes to address.
  • Track reliability growth with these implemented changes.
  • Validate customer usage compared to assumed test requirements / duty cycles, to identify any gaps in reliability test plan.
  • Translating clinical and business needs into quantifiable reliability requirements.
  • Inject reliability thinking early in design by translating intended use, duty cycle, and patient-risk assumptions into reliability requirements.

Benefits

  • medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, business accident insurance, and group legal insurance.
