Release Manager

CACI•Aurora, CO

About The Position

CACI is seeking an experienced Release Manager to lead software release execution, deployment readiness, and delivery governance for a large-scale government program supporting national critical operations. Working across a distributed engineering organization of more than 45 engineers, this role provides end-to-end oversight of processes that move software from development through operational environments safely, predictably, and efficiently. The Release Manager is the program authority for release governance, deployment coordination, software baselines, and release readiness across multiple development and platform teams. The role partners with the Chief Engineer, Chief Architect, Product Manager, software teams, platform engineering, test, information assurance, and government stakeholders. It translates development progress into disciplined, repeatable releases while ensuring technical, operational, security, and program requirements are met. The role calls for a DevSecOps and systems-thinking mindset, a broad understanding of the software delivery lifecycle, and the ability to improve automation, testing, pipeline performance, deployment reliability, and release transparency. It focuses on release management and software delivery execution, not Agile Product Manager or Release Train Engineer responsibilities. The Release Manager leads release execution for a high-throughput, scalable data lake hosted on AWS, coordinating delivery across a system with diverse data inputs, a broad user base, and a large downstream consumer community. The role manages dependencies and operational impacts related to APIs and integrations for external data users and producers, and works across a delivery ecosystem that includes CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, security scanning, infrastructure-as-code, cloud-native deployment practices, and multiple operational environments. The position requires an active TS/SCI security clearance and a bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, along with at least seven years of professional software, systems, or agile engineering experience. The position is full time and regular, with up to 10% travel within the continental United States. The proposed salary range is $98,500–$206,800. CACI describes a culture of integrity and trust, flexible time off, learning resources, growth opportunities, competitive compensation, and benefits supporting employees and their families.

Requirements

  • Active TS/SCI security clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • At least 7 years of professional software, systems, or agile engineering experience.
  • Proven experience coordinating end-to-end software releases, deployment readiness, release schedules, software baselines, cross-team dependencies, and operational delivery.
  • Strong understanding of DevSecOps principles and CI/CD pipelines, including build processes, automated testing, deployment automation, security scanning, version control, branching strategies, and configuration management.
  • Experience supporting software delivery across development, integration, test, and production environments and working with engineering and platform teams to identify and resolve delivery bottlenecks.
  • Experience evaluating automated test results, software quality indicators, and security scan findings and coordinating resolution of issues affecting release readiness.
  • Strong systems-thinking, cross-functional communication, and organizational skills, including the ability to translate technical delivery information into program, operational, and user impacts.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting DoD and/or Intelligence Community software programs and classified development environments.
  • Familiarity with AWS-based architectures, cloud-native deployments, serverless computing, and infrastructure-as-code.
  • Experience with GitLab or similar CI/CD tooling, automated deployment practices, software supply-chain security, and modern DevSecOps workflows.
  • Experience developing release metrics, dashboards, automated reporting, and process improvements that increase software delivery reliability and predictability.
  • Experience with intelligence community data systems, large-scale data lake implementations, mission processing systems, or systems supporting large numbers of external producers and consumers.
  • Working knowledge of Agile software development sufficient to collaborate with Product Managers and development teams while maintaining a distinct focus on release management and software delivery execution.

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end release execution across software and platform teams, including schedules, deployment sequencing, software baselines, versioning, readiness activities, and promotion decisions.
  • Maintain release processes and ensure required artifacts, approvals, dependencies, and government compliance activities are complete before deployment.
  • Oversee the software delivery pipeline operationally and work with platform engineering to improve delivery mechanisms across development, integration, test, and production environments.
  • Monitor build health, deployment status, automated testing, and pipeline performance; identify bottlenecks and drive improvements to delivery reliability and efficiency.
  • Promote secure, automated, and repeatable software delivery practices.
  • Monitor pipeline and automated test results, coordinate remediation of security scan findings, support automated testing maturity, and partner with engineering, test, platform, and cybersecurity teams to improve deployment confidence.
  • Establish and maintain criteria for progressing software between environments; facilitate release readiness reviews and deployment decision forums; coordinate dependencies and prepare operational stakeholders for changes.
  • Drive issues affecting release readiness to closure and maintain deployment discipline.
  • Manage software baselines, release versioning, configuration control, and release implications of branching and integration strategies.
  • Ensure stakeholders can identify software deployed in each environment and the capabilities, fixes, and changes included in each release.
  • Serve as a primary interface for release status across engineering and program leadership, government customers, and external stakeholders; communicate delivery timing, mission impacts, risks, and effects on users and external systems.
  • Develop and maintain transparency mechanisms for release contents, deployment status, and operational impacts; produce release notes describing technical changes and impacts to users, producers, consumers, and mission operations.
  • Identify and mitigate release, operational, technical, and cross-team dependency risks; coordinate resolution across software, infrastructure, test, information assurance, and external stakeholders, escalating issues that threaten schedules or readiness.
  • Improve release reliability, predictability, automation, and efficiency; develop and use metrics and dashboards, capture lessons learned, standardize successful practices, reduce manual processes, and mature the software delivery lifecycle.

Benefits

  • Flexible time off benefit.
  • Robust learning resources and learning and development opportunities.
  • Competitive compensation.
  • Healthcare, wellness, financial, retirement, family support, continuing education, and time off benefits.
