About The Position

As MISO’s Release Engineer II, you will help determine how software is built, tested, secured, and delivered by driving automation and continuous improvement across the software development lifecycle. You will build and operate engineering platforms, secure delivery practices, and AI-native capabilities that enable product teams to deliver high-quality, reliable software. The role works hands-on across CI/CD, DevSecOps, AI, cloud, containers, and infrastructure-as-code to reduce manual work, strengthen application security, and improve the developer experience. You will also advance MISO’s AI-forward initiatives by managing GitHub, Copilot, and Claude configurations, enabling AI features, and helping developers use AI tools effectively. The work supports scalable engineering workflows that improve reliability and accelerate innovation across the organization. MISO manages the electricity grid in the Central U.S. and uses research and technology to help ensure reliable power flows to 45 million Americans. The position offers a base salary of $122,000–$147,000 USD annually and may be eligible for an annual bonus based on individual performance and company objectives. MISO offers a comprehensive benefits package, including 401(k), vacation, and sick and safe time, available on the first day of employment. The appropriate level will be determined based on experience and knowledge.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience, with 3+ years of experience.
Demonstrated experience implementing, maintaining, and supporting CI/CD production platforms; GitHub Enterprise and GitHub Actions preferred.
Hands-on experience responsibly enabling and validating agentic AI tools such as GitHub Copilot or Claude at enterprise scale, with attention to security, privacy, intellectual property, and governance.
Proficiency in one or more programming languages; Python preferred, and experience building automation that reduces manual operational work.
Experience integrating security and quality controls into software delivery, including secrets management and automated quality gates, and familiarity with application security scanning and compliance environments such as NERC CIP or SOC 1.
Experience building, deploying, and troubleshooting containerized workloads using Docker, Podman, or Kubernetes, including managing images and deployment health.
Experience with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or Ansible.

Experience with GitHub Enterprise and GitHub Actions.
Python programming experience.
Experience with NERC CIP or SOC 1 compliance environments.

Responsibilities

Enable and advance responsible, agentic AI capabilities across MISO to enhance developer experience and support AI-native engineering practices.
Implement automated, reusable pipelines to build, test, review, secure, deploy, and release software products in partnership with development teams, with a focus on developer experience and continuous delivery.
Develop software and infrastructure-as-code to automate manual operational work, reduce engineering toil, and enable self-service across technology platforms.
Monitor and troubleshoot pipelines, deployments, environments, and engineering tools; identify root causes and deliver durable, long-term fixes.
Integrate secure development practices, application-security controls, and standardized quality gates into workflows.
Collaborate with partner teams to deliver multidisciplinary solutions that unlock new capabilities.
Manage GitHub, Copilot, and Claude configurations, enable AI features, and help developers use AI tools effectively.
