About The Position

Heritage Bank is seeking individuals who are looking to build a career and make a difference by fostering customer relationships. The relationship banking team leader is responsible for leading, managing, and overseeing deposit sales, relationship management, and service teams within an assigned market area. This role is accountable for developing and implementing an effective market area business plan to achieve production goals aligned with the bank's deposit growth strategies, ensuring a positive customer experience, and adhering to bank policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. This position is fully on-site, with preferred locations in Seattle or Bellevue, WA, and is responsible for client growth and retention throughout the Greater Puget Sound footprint, including Seattle, Bellevue, Tacoma, and Peninsula geographic locations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or relevant discipline – required. MBA - preferred.
  • 8+ years of recent and progressive responsibilities tied to commercial deposit and relationship management / business development experience, counseling and customizing solutions to business clients and successfully managing complex commercial banking deposit relationships, to include a minimum of 2 – 3 years recent experience in a management / leadership role, successfully managing a team of bankers and support staff in a financial services industry required.
  • Pacific Coast Banking School Graduate or equivalent – preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education, training and management experience may be considered.
  • Customer-centric mindset, with the ability to translate customer issues/needs into profitable business solutions. Strong relationship management and influencing skills with the ability to understand and operate successfully in a rapidly changing and complex environment.
  • Strong leadership and managerial skills are required to manage, motivate, and develop a diverse team of bankers and specialists, to include oversight and management of multiple remote locations. Employee development, performance management, training, and employee counseling skills are required.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize management and leadership best practices to plan, direct, schedule and review the work performance of assigned employees, by providing ongoing feedback and opportunities to learn, through formal and informal methods.

  • Thoroughly understands and appropriately applies principles, procedures, requirements, regulations, and policies related to assigned area of oversight.
  • Unquestionable integrity in handling sensitive and confidential information required.
  • Proficient PC experience using MS Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook) and retrieval of data; working knowledge of automated financial systems, customer ticketing systems / help desk, with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies.
  • May travel for business development, customer and bank business meetings; willingness to travel to other branch locations when needed; valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and access to reliable transportation; or the ability to access and utilize an alternative method of transportation, when needed, to carry out job-related essential functions.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership, management, support, direction, and guidance to a team of bankers and relationship managers within a market area in servicing, retaining, and developing new deposit and treasury management business while focusing on relationship-building, client experience, and risk management.
  • Participates in the strategic planning process ensuring the market is identified, penetrated and managed to achieve and/or exceed bank goals.
  • Develops annual business plan with management team to ensure maximum profitability and effectiveness.
  • Manages performance of individual team members, holding all accountable for achieving business priorities with a focus on client experience and risk management.
  • Manages the market area’s revenue and profitability and monitor adherence to regulatory requirements, and risk protocols; utilize reporting and metrics to monitor team performance, identify trends, and address or escalate issues in a timely manner.
  • Develops and coaches sales team on all aspects of managing and growing a deposit portfolio and proactively engages the commercial service desk workflow, providing support as needed to ensure a quality customer experience.
  • Holds bankers accountable for understanding the personal financial goals and needs of their business clients and connecting them with specialists who can help meet their financial needs.
  • Fosters and maintains cohesive partnerships and working relationships with all lines of business within the bank to build a trusted and productive sales and service referral process and a ensure a positive client experience.
  • Builds, monitors, and maintains an active sales pipeline both individually and for assigned relationship managers with regular reporting utilizing H360 technology. Maximize established referral network and continue to expand network.
  • Represents the bank in the local community by attending events, volunteering, and participating in nonprofit boards and committees, while establishing a durable and productive network of referral sources and centers of influence outside the bank.
  • Provides direct reports with proper tools and authority to execute their assigned functions and develops skills of staff through goal-setting, coaching, problem resolution, delegation, training, counseling, and performance management.
  • Works collaboratively with management and Human Resources to recommend staffing levels and approves personnel actions such as hiring, terminations, promotions, transfers, training and development of staff, timely performance reviews and salary increases, in accordance with legal and acceptable Bank personnel practices.
  • Actively recruits and maintains a pipeline of diverse viable candidates; select, hire, develop and retain top quality talent by creating an inclusive and respectful team environment.
  • Participates in coordinating the successful implementation of marketing and promotional programs within the assigned market area for new products and services. Maintains an awareness of competitive products, practices, rates and changes in the local market managed.
  • Maintains an in-depth knowledge of entire product suite as well as a current knowledge of external conditions including competition and demographics to ensure client needs are met.
