About The Position

Hannover Life Reassurance Company of America (Hannover Re) is currently seeking talented candidates for our open Reinsurance Accountant position. This is a Full-Time role within the CSS – Financial Reporting & Valuation department. The Reinsurance Accountant is responsible for the quarterly Statutory, IFRS and Solvency II financial reporting for assigned complex accounts. This role conducts in-depth analysis of client reported electronic data to ensure it is accurate and timely in accordance with treaty guidelines. The position communicates information about client issues and unusual reporting trends with actual or potential financial consequences to the appropriate stakeholders. This role could include supervisory responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and analyze quarterly Statutory, IFRS and Solvency II financial reports for assigned complex assumed reinsurance treaties and related retrocessions to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
  • Provide clear explanations for reporting period variances.
  • Work closely with the actuarial teams during the reporting process to ensure amounts recorded are accurate.
  • Prepare financial workpaper documentation, schedules, and reconciliations as required for internal and Hannover Office deliverables as well as external audit to substantiate compliance with local and IFRS reporting standards.
  • Consolidate and reviews asset data for structured market categories to facilitate risk monitoring.
  • Perform forecast upload and review to support the quarterly reporting cycle.
  • Review and ensure the financial reporting prepared by direct reports is accurate (if applicable).
  • Develop an understanding of treaty guidelines specific to assigned treaties to determine expectations of both parties.
  • Conduct analysis of client reported data to determine accuracy in accordance with treaty guidelines.
  • Communicate actual or potential financial consequences or business risks to the appropriate stakeholders to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Calculate and analyse Experience Refunds and Loss Carryforwards.
  • Accurately record details of all client reporting using various company business systems to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Analyze Trend Reports for reasonability and balance checks.
  • Reviews and ensures certain cash reporting prepared by direct reports is accurate (if applicable).
  • Identify and investigate client reporting inconsistencies. Take steps to implement corrections using judgement and best practices.
  • Lead direct reports to solve and implement corrections on problematic accounts (if applicable).
  • Implement procedures to improve processing inefficiencies.
  • Identify action items resulting from the quarterly financial reporting, and coordinate with the actuarial teams to resolve.
  • Produce and/or direct (if applicable) the preparation of ad hoc documentation on assigned accounts for internal and external auditors to support quarterly audit cycle (e.g. MAR).
  • Prepare and/or direct (if applicable) the preparation of quarterly PBC reports to satisfy internal and external auditor requests. Includes both routine and one-off analytic requests.
  • Provide support to the VP and AVP Financial Reporting, including but not limited to the preparation of quarterly deliverables and as needed for earnings calls.
  • Lead special projects and assignments involving multiple team members.
  • Act as a resource for colleagues with less experience.
  • Manage direct reports to ensure their workload, tasks and responsibilities are completed accurately and timely (if applicable).
