About The Position

Position Summary: Assists a physical or occupational therapist by providing treatment as prescribed by the therapist, maintaining notes of patient's progress, instructing patients in proper use of equipment and proper positioning for exercises, and determining adaptive equipment needs. Must be licensed.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited program for rehabilitation therapy assistant.
  • Must posses a valid Nevada license as Occupational Therapy Assistant (depending on area of assignment), or; valid license as Physical Therapy Assistant (depending on area of assignment).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Knowledge of standards of care in occupational or physical therapy
  • Knowledge of adaptive equipment and its appropriate application
  • Knowledge of disabilities, diseases and the effects of each on the body
  • Knowledge of neurological, physical and psychological development stages for assigned age groups
  • Knowledge of department and hospital safety policies and practices
  • Knowledge of patient rights
  • Knowledge of age specific patient care practices
  • Knowledge of handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials
  • Knowledge of department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures.
  • Skill in setting up and using equipment specific to therapy discipline
  • Skill in performing general office duties
  • Skill in operating a personal computer
  • Skill in mobility, transfer, ADL and gait training with or without assistive devices
  • Skill in using proper body mechanics
  • Skill in communicating with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds under stressful conditions
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties
  • Skill in efficient, effective and safe use of equipment
