About The Position

This role is for an Inpatient Rehabilitation Tech and Scheduler within the Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. The position is full-time, working 40 hours per week with a schedule of four 10-hour shifts, Monday through Friday. The pay range is $20.80 - $31.20 per hour. The role involves assisting in patient care, maintaining the treatment area, communicating with patients and staff, transporting patients, maintaining inpatient schedules using hospital software, and performing patient reception services. The position also requires contributing to a harmonious work environment and upholding organizational policies.

Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent.
  • 2-3 years related experience required.
  • Medical terminology strongly preferred.
  • Previous computer experience is beneficial.
  • Ability to recognize needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups of patients treated.
  • Typing 20-30 words/minute.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Proficiency with computer input, strong keyboard skills.
  • Ability to function in a stressful environment with a high level of empathy, tact and poise.
  • Knowledge of general office equipment.
  • CPR Certification within 3 months of employment.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance.
  • Willing to be called off based on unit demands.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the delivery of patient care, including cleaning and tidying treatment areas, checking equipment, and following safety and infection control measures.
  • Notifies appropriate personnel of equipment malfunctions and follows repair procedures.
  • Communicates with patients, team members, and other professionals to share information for optimal patient care.
  • Assists with direct patient care activities and licensed therapists in preparing treatment materials (e.g., hot/cold packs, exercise materials, functional mobility training materials, splint fabrication items).
  • Assists licensed therapists in providing group therapy services.
  • Routinely checks patient identification bands to verify correct patient.
  • Ensures patients are transported with necessary items (e.g., oxygen, gait belt, bracing) and maintains patient privacy during transport.
  • Communicates with nursing staff regarding patient medical status before transfers and reports any changes to the therapist.
  • Accompanies patients at all times and ensures they are handed off to another associate.
  • Communicates potential patient problems or changes in patient behavior to the therapist or other healthcare providers.
  • Offers to make patients comfortable by providing blankets, pillows, reading materials, etc.
  • Informs therapist of delays/cancelations and the reason.
  • Demonstrates safe body mechanics during functional mobility tasks and performs transfers with or without supervision based on competency.
  • Maintains inpatient schedules using hospital and computer software, comparing and verifying patient information.
  • Communicates with therapists to facilitate patient discharge, social work, nursing, and physician needs.
  • Informs Rehab Unit Team Leaders or designee of new admissions and resume orders.
  • Distributes new patients to therapists according to established criteria.
  • Coordinates patient schedules around tests, procedures, family training, home visits, and other healthcare provider requests.
  • Schedules special services such as interpreters or sign language when appropriate.
  • Reassigns and prioritizes patients due to staff shortages/absenteeism.
  • Tracks therapy minutes provided and keeps team leaders and manager informed of patients not meeting CMS requirements.
  • Greets, acknowledges, and assists patients and family members professionally and welcomingly.
  • Answers phones, takes messages, and redirects calls appropriately.
  • Ensures patient and family confidential information is handled according to established guidelines.
  • Promotes increased utilization of services by maintaining customer-focused behavior.
  • Assists in contacting and rescheduling patients due to therapist call-ins or schedule changes.
  • Fosters positive communications between all members of the department team.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of proper telephone function and etiquette.
  • Acknowledges and responds to all internal and external customers.
  • Coordinates incoming and outgoing calls, including recording and reporting of pages and messages.
  • Participates in Performance Improvement activities and attends department meetings and inservice education.
  • Complies with organization and department patient satisfaction initiatives.
  • Performs job duties requested by manager and team leaders and completes all daily responsibilities.
  • Upholds policies and procedures of Advocate Health Care/ALGH and completes competencies in a timely manner.
