About The Position

We are seeking a Part-Time Rehabilitation Counselor to join our Behavioral Health Services Division. This role involves providing support, education, and guidance to individuals identified with mental health and personality disorders who are involved with the criminal justice system. The counselor will assist participants with activities, skill-building, goal achievement, and interaction within the local community, while upholding Horizon House's mission, values, and beliefs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services/Social Services, Healthcare or related field with at least 1 year of experience working directly with individuals with mental health and/or other behavioral health disorders or in a forensic setting; OR Associates Degree, or 60 credits in human services or related field and 3 years experience in working directly with individuals with mental health disorders and/or other behavioral health disorders or in a forensic setting; OR High School Diploma/GED and a minimum of 5 years experience in mental health and/or other behavioral health disorders or forensic setting.
  • Good communication and counseling skills.
  • Good writing and computer skills for documenting in an electronic health record.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a focused team.
  • Possess manual dexterity and fine motor skills.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
  • Local travel required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in residential or other services to individuals with Severe Mental Illness or Personality Disorders preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support, education, and guidance to individuals with mental health and personality disorders involved with the criminal justice system.
  • Assist with participant activities, skill building, and goal achievement.
  • Facilitate local community interaction for participants.
  • Implement Horizon House's mission, values, and beliefs.
  • Frequent talking and listening.
  • Direct intervention with participants, which may include lifting, carrying, folding, kneeling, reaching, stacking, stooping, and bending.
  • Crisis intervention in emergencies, including managing aggression.
  • Transporting program participants.
  • Reporting to work during emergencies, including inclement weather.
