About The Position

The Rehabilitation Counselor plays a vital role for the Louisiana Department of Health in the Behavioral Health community by utilizing CLSH’s values and mission to deliver quality and effective care to our patients. The hospital is highly committed to cooperative work with other state agencies and with the state and regional mental health program to insure the integration and coordination of hospital-community services into a comprehensive system of mental health care. Central Louisiana State Hospital located in Pineville, Louisiana is seeking applicants for a vacant position in our Activity Therapy Department as a Rehabilitation Counselor who independently provides eligible rehabilitation patients with professional counseling, guidance, training, vocational alternatives, and placement services resulting in gainful employment and/or self-sufficiency.

Requirements

  • One year of experience in rehabilitation counseling plus one of the following:
  • A bachelor’s degree plus one year of experience in rehabilitation services, social services, administrative services, therapy services, or nursing; OR
  • A bachelor’s degree in a rehabilitation field, a social sciences field, social work, education, nursing, health and human services, speech therapy, or business administration; OR
  • A master’s degree.

Responsibilities

  • Independently provide work skills training for adult chronic psychiatric patients at onsite locations through part-time job opportunities with close, supportive supervision as part of the Activity Therapy Day Program.
  • Collaborate with public and private employers in the community to assist patients with job placement when appropriate.
  • Provide a variety of structured activities both on and off grounds with groups of psychiatric patients designed to address individual treatment plan objectives to include, but not limited to, facilitation of coping skills, problem solving skills, and medication compliance.
  • Plan and facilitate special events and activities to promote socialization and leisure participation.
  • Evaluate patient progress and maintain documentation in the medical record according to department and medical record guidelines.
  • Administer Activity Therapy assessments and annual reassessments to assist in development of individual treatment plans.
