About The Position

The Rehabilitation Counselor works in Avery County, Newland, at a satellite office of the Boone VR/IL Unit. The role helps individuals with disabilities pursue career and independent living goals through counseling, individualized planning, and coordination of services. The counselor helps clients overcome disability-related barriers and obtain and maintain gainful employment. The position is funded in part through federal funds and may be filled through trainee progression for applicants who have not yet fully met the education requirements. Progression milestones are at 6, 12, and 18 months, with fully qualified status at 24 months; salary increases are awarded during progression.

Requirements

Master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling from an appropriately accredited institution; or a master’s degree in a related human services field from an appropriately accredited institution; or current certification as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor by the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification.

Responsibilities

Evaluate professional diagnostic data to determine eligibility and required rehabilitation services.
Develop a written plan of services in conjunction with the consumer, parent, and/or guardian.
Provide rehabilitation services within a guidance and counseling relationship, including supportive counseling.
Monitor the consumer's progress throughout the service delivery process.
Work directly with community partners to help individuals with disabilities become suitably employed.
Document service delivery and case progress in the case management system as required by agency policy.
