About The Position

This Rehabilitation Counselor-Associate is an experienced position responsible for providing caseload support to Rehabilitation Counselors by relieving them of paraprofessional, non-counseling duties in order to improve long-term employment outcomes for consumers. Travel may be required for this position and must be performed as needed. The Office of Workforce Development (OWD) is a key division of Louisiana Works; managing programs in workforce training, job placement, apprenticeships, and business engagement. Through collaboration with local boards, educational institutions, and industry partners, OWD aims to improve economic mobility for job seekers and ensure Louisiana employers have the skilled talent they need, contributing to the state’s economic growth. Louisiana Rehabilitation Services (LRS) assists persons with disabilities in their desire to obtain, maintain, or advance in competitive integrated employment and achieve independence in their communities by providing rehabilitation services and working cooperatively with businesses and other community resources.

Requirements

  • One year of experience in social services, health insurance claims processing, employee benefits, an allied health field, medical records, or interviewing, screening, or admitting patients to a health care facility; OR Thirty semester hours earned from an accredited college or university.

Responsibilities

  • Performs initial intake activities, obtaining information from the consumer for the counselor.
  • Administers the day-to-day details of individually assigned cases and follows up with contacts.
  • Receives telephone calls from vendors, consumers, etc., and relieves the counselor of routine matters and updates in case records.
  • Prepares and processes authorizations in AWARE for training programs and support services.
  • Receives and screens information from potential consumers and provides consumers with proper forms and information regarding the rehabilitation process.
  • Independently contacts consumers who have lost contact with the agency to inquire about their status and the possibility of resuming services.
  • Contacts job-ready consumers to determine whether intervention or assistance is needed.
  • Meets periodically with workgroup colleagues regarding the problems and needs of the consumers (i.e., periodic workgroup meetings, periodic case review meetings, and regional meetings).
  • Other duties as assigned and travel must be performed as required.
