About The Position

The Rehabilitation Counselor Associate is an experienced position that provides caseload support to Rehabilitation Counselors by handling paraprofessional, non-counseling duties to help improve consumers’ long-term employment outcomes. The role supports Louisiana Rehabilitation Services, which assists people with disabilities in obtaining, maintaining, or advancing in competitive integrated employment and achieving independence in their communities through rehabilitation services and cooperation with businesses and community resources. Travel may be required as needed.

Requirements

• One year of experience in social services, health insurance claims processing, employee benefits, an allied health field, medical records, or interviewing, screening, or admitting patients to a health care facility; or 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university.
• Selected applicants must submit to drug screening and a background check.

Responsibilities

• Perform initial intake activities and obtain information from consumers for the counselor.
• Administer the day-to-day details of individually assigned cases and follow up with contacts.
• Receive telephone calls from vendors and consumers, handle routine matters for the counselor, and update case records.
• Prepare and process authorizations in AWARE for training programs and support services.
• Receive and screen information from potential consumers and provide appropriate forms and information about the rehabilitation process.
• Independently contact consumers who have lost contact with the agency to ask about their status and the possibility of resuming services.
• Contact job-ready consumers to determine whether intervention or assistance is needed.
• Meet periodically with workgroup colleagues to discuss consumers’ problems and needs, including at workgroup, case review, and regional meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned and travel as required.
