Rehab Assistant Full Time
About The Position
Western State Hospital, part of the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS), is seeking a full-time Rehab Assistant. This facility, established in 1828 and located in the scenic Shenandoah Valley, is a 302-bed Joint Commission/CMS-accredited psychiatric facility serving adults with serious mental health needs. The hospital is recognized for its Psychosocial Rehabilitation “Learning” programs and offers a modern clinical setting and therapeutic environment. The Rehab Assistant will assist in the development and implementation of training or therapeutic interventions within the psychosocial treatment program, and provide leisure activities for assigned clients.
Requirements
- Valid Virginia Driver's license
Nice To Haves
- High School Diploma or GED certificate
- College courses in therapeutic recreation, mental health, psychosocial rehabilitation, or related therapies
- Bilingual
- Veteran or veteran spouse
Responsibilities
- Engages in a minimum of 18 hours of active treatment in PSR programs each week as evidenced by approved schedule
- Ensures programs are appropriate to age, needs, and interests as reflected on assessment data
- Provides client contact hours on and off unit
- Completes assessments/reassessments for the clinical process according to departmental time frames
- Demonstrates competency as psychosocial rehab facilitator by obtaining passing score on staff competency summaries
- Submits expense receipts and supply orders following guidelines and keeps records of funds spent
