About The Position

Western State Hospital, part of the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS), is seeking a part-time/wage Rehab Assistant. This role will assist in the development and implementation of therapeutic interventions within the psychosocial treatment program, provide open leisure programming for all patients, and offer on-unit programming on admissions units. The hospital is a 302-bed Joint Commission/CMS-accredited psychiatric facility located in the scenic Shenandoah Valley, serving adults with serious mental health needs and recognized for its Psychosocial Rehabilitation “Learning” programs. Requirements

• No previous experience required.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or GED certificate.
• College courses in recreation, occupational therapy, psychology or related fields.
• Bilingual.
• Veteran or Veteran Spouse.

Responsibilities

• Conduct 6-10 hours of psychosocial rehabilitation interventions per week, according to approved schedules.
• Responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating programs for weekend activities on admission PCUs.
• Ensures that interventions are appropriate to individual clients' ages, interests, and abilities as reflected by assessment data.
• Supervise assigned areas and monitor the milieu appropriately.
• Demonstrates competency as psychosocial rehab facilitator by obtaining passing score on staff competency summary.
• Prepares materials for intervention prior to facilitation and stores materials after completion of intervention.
• Completes all mandated trainings by deadlines.
• Make arrangements for coverage with other part time and P-14 staff when unable to work assigned schedule.
