About The Position

The Florida Department of Health, Division of Medical Quality Assurance (MQA) serves the public by licensing qualified health care providers, enforcing standards among licensees and facilities, and informing licensees and the public on matters related to providing safe health care to Floridians. The Bureau of Health Care Practitioner Regulation is specifically responsible for policy making and programmatic activities related to licensure of health care practitioners and regulated facilities in the state of Florida. The Florida Board of Nursing is the largest of seven offices in the Bureau.

Requirements

  • Knowledge and proficiency of Microsoft Office software.

  • Ability to learn and utilize job-specific software such as LEIDS and AxiomPro and office equipment such as phones, fax machines, scanners, and copiers.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 2 years’ experience that includes data entry, document preparation, computer software use, evaluating legal documents or evaluating for compliance with regulations, customer service, or handling sensitive information.
  • College education can substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates complex applications for advanced practice registered nurses. Communicate with applicants about licensure statutes and rules. Evaluates applications for advanced practice nursing licensure to determine eligibility. Approves requests for licensure and notifies applicants.
  • Establishes and maintains a paper and/or electronic filing system for specific professions, which includes applications, transcripts, correspondence, license and employment verifications, and other supporting documentation. Enters and maintains accurate data and uploads documentation on licensees and the status of applications and licensure in relevant electronic databases.
  • Use computer database systems and multiple internet sites to research licensure history, review disciplinary actions and status of other state licenses. Reviews and inputs qualifying information into licensure database.
  • Routes files to History team for review and/or preparation for board agenda.  Coordinate with staff to update database and reroute documentation to the appropriate location. Participates in weekly team meetings and meetings with direct supervisor, on site. Participates in process improvement team meetings as required.
  • Responds to inquiries to include e-mail, mail, in-person, phone, and faxed documents. Responsible for ensuring the accuracy of licensure information in the database.  Reports any errors to include vendor errors. Maintains an electronic filing system through the document repository.
