About The Position

This position represents the SIGC in a highly professional manner and requires technical and people skills. The position monitors the gaming operation to ensure compliance with the SIGC operating policy and procedures, preserve and protect the assets of the Squaxin Island Tribe and ensure the integrity of the gaming operation. The position will monitor, inspect, investigate and report on criminal and administrative incidents involving compliance with the Tribal Gaming Ordinance and Regulations, Tribal – State Compact, RCW, SIGC Systems of Accounting and Internal Controls, the requirements of the National Indian Gaming Commission and the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act. This position may be assigned to Licensing, (Enforcement, Surveillance), Audit or IT depending on the needs of the Agency. This position is a training position and will work closely with Regulatory Agents for 6 months. The candidate will be mentored and evaluated for 6 months on the following: Use independent judgment to assess situations and conditions and determine an appropriate course of action. Maintain all pertinent information and materials as confidential. Monitor activity occurring on gaming property and gaming controlled locations. Research gaming internal controls and regulations and apply research to specific incidents. Ensure regulatory compliance with all applicable Tribal, Federal and State laws and regulations by monitoring, observing, reporting and taking appropriate action. Detect and investigate regulatory issues, including but not limited to game protection, rule of play, and irregularities and relevant laws. Perform audits on operations to determine compliance with system of internal controls and regulations. Assist the Internal Auditor, Licensing Agent and Surveillance team in performing the functions of these departments. Utilize and maintain systems, logs and other means to track and report gaming incidents and activities that are not normal to the operation or are in violation of specific gaming procedures and regulations. Report immediately all observed violations to the Director/Operations Manager in accordance with Tribal Gaming Commission procedures. Enforce applicable law while maintaining a positive relationship with those impacted. Maintain positive relations with employees, management, outside organizations and/or agencies and political entities. Review all TLS certification and gaming reports to ensure regulatory compliance. Assist in the daily routines of office maintenance, phones, filing and organization for the effective and efficient operation of the agency. Gather statistical data and complete any other special projects as directed by the Director/Deputy Director. Interact with Law Enforcement and other regulatory agencies to ensure objectives are met. Respectfully interact with the public and licensees maintain a professional demeanor. Perform shift work including nights, weekends, and holidays. Perform other duties as assigned. If the candidate demonstrates the ability to perform the above listed tasks within the 6 months of hire and has not violated any internal policies, they will be offered a Regulatory Agent position with the Tribal Gaming Agency.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Valid Washington State Driver’s License.
  • Must be able to pass a background investigation.
  • Must meet the criteria for a gaming license.
  • Professional business attire is required for this position.
  • Regularly required to talk or hear.
  • Occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must maintain the utmost confidentiality in all work, investigations and activities of this position. Any violation in this matter will result in termination of employment.
  • Successful candidate will be required to have a urinalysis for drug and alcohol screening in accordance with the Tribe’s Drug Free Workplace Policy.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate of Arts Degree in a related field and two year of relevant experience OR High School Diploma/GED, and four years of relevant experience.
