About The Position

The Cannabis Regulatory Agency is seeking candidates to fulfill the role of Regulation Officer responsible for primarily working in either one of the following counties – preference will be given to candidates living within the counties: Wayne, Oakland and Macomb. The Regulation Officer may occasionally be asked to assist in other counties based on operational needs. Candidates will be selected for these openings in part based on their current home location. The Regulation Officer conducts routine inspections of CRA applicant and licensed businesses to verify compliance with various acts and administrative rules related to marijuana and industrial hemp. This role involves reviewing applicant/licensee information, data, and compliance history prior to inspections, preparing detailed reports, and providing consultation and assistance to licensed businesses. The position may also require testifying in administrative hearings or other legal proceedings. The use of artificial intelligence (AI) software is prohibited in all areas of the selection process.

Requirements

  • Possession of a bachelor's degree.
  • Two years of experience providing professional regulation officer services equivalent to a Regulation Officer in state service, including one year equivalent to an intermediate level Regulation Officer.
  • Two years of experience as a State Police Detective Sergeant or its equivalent may be substituted for the experience and education required at the entry level; three years of such experience may be substituted at the intermediate level; four years of such experience may be substituted at the experienced level, and five years of such experience may be substituted at the advanced level. The determination of what constitutes equivalent experience is based on a comparison of an applicant's experience and training to the experience and training, specifically as it relates to investigative training, of a Michigan State Police Detective.
  • Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school and the equivalent of at least two years of full-time active-duty experience at or above the E-6 level in the uniformed services may be substituted for the education requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts routine inspections of CRA applicant and licensed businesses to verify compliance with the Medical Marihuana Facilities Licensing Act (MMFLA), Michigan Regulation and Taxation on Marijuana Act (MRTMA), Marihuana Tracking Act (MTA), Industrial Hemp Research and Development Act, or the associated administrative rules.
  • Reviews applicant or licensee information, data, compliance history, and approvals prior to conducting inspections.
  • Prepares detailed reports in accordance with procedure.
  • Provides consultation and assistance to new and existing licensed businesses in accordance with Medical Marihuana Facilities Licensing Act (MMFLA), Michigan Regulation and Taxation on Marijuana Act (MRTMA), Marihuana Tracking Act (MTA), Industrial Hemp Research and Development Act, or the associated administrative rules.
  • May be required to testify in administrative hearings or other legal proceedings.
