About The Position

The Registration Specialist will assist in all registration related activities including assisting patients and visitors in a friendly and courteous manner. Complete clerical duties required for the position, conduct financial discussions, create estimates and complete collection processes. This role will be a resource who will use the primary eligibility portals to validate eligibility and review contact status for incoming and outgoing transfer as needed. Staff are experienced in multiple work areas or function routinely in services areas with high acuity patients and act as a resource person to newly hired staff orienting to their new position.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma / GED Required
  • 1 year Customer Service experience Required
  • 1 year Patient Access/Registration experience in a hospital or physician office setting Required
  • Knowledge of Patient Rights, HIPAA and Medicare Secondary Payer guidelines.
  • Identify complex problems, review related information, evaluate options and implement appropriate solutions.
  • Able to learn and understand basic medical terminology used in the service area.
  • Working knowledge & regular practice in workflow of 4 different care areas or regularly works in an emergency care setting with high need/difficult situations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service to all patients, visitors, and other guests to Stormont Vail.
  • Register patients in a timely manner including demographic, insurance, visit information, obtain signatures on documents and apply patient safety armbands.
  • Complete check-in and admission functions at various service areas as needed based on patient volumes.
  • Completes insurance verifications to validate eligibility and contract status using website access for potential incoming and outgoing patient transfers.
  • Routinely acts as a resource person to assist new staff in learning tasks and workflows for their new position.
  • Complete financial discussions including providing patient estimates and payment collections.
  • Answer department phone, answer questions or transfer caller to appropriate area as needed.
  • Provide and explain all required handouts as appropriate.
  • Complete basic real time eligibility insurance validation.
  • Escort patients to treatment area.
  • Complete various clerical and office duties as required based on service area.
  • Comply with laws and regulations in maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Correct account and visit edits in a timely manner.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
  • Comply with all policies, standards, mandatory training and requirements of Stormont Vail.
