About The Position

Assists Houston Surgical Associates patients front and/or discharge windows to include receiving visitors and patients, ascertaining their needs and directing them accordingly. Performs related clerical duties; entering information into systems, collecting forms; and completing medical chart entries; collecting fees as appropriate and answering phones. Handles pre-certs for procedures. Registers new patients, verifies and updates demographic and insurance information of established patients in record and computer. Verifies co-pays and coverage. Monitors reception area and patient flow, notifies patient of delays. Reconciles daily patient receipts. Provides other clerical support and department duties as necessary and/or as assigned by the office manager or physician. Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • One (1) year in physician office or related hospital experience.
  • AHA/ARC BLS certification required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
  • Knowledge of planning and scheduling techniques.
  • Knowledge of medical billing procedures.
  • Word processing and/or data entry skills.
  • Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.
  • Receptionist skills.
  • Skill in preparing and maintaining patient records.
  • Ability to develop and maintain filing systems.
  • Ability to interact and communicate with people in person and over the telephone, often in stressful situations.
  • Knowledge of the nature and provisions of alternate health insurance plans.
  • Knowledge of pre-certification requirements, procedures and documentation of third-party medical insurance payers.
