About The Position

Under the direction of the Revenue Cycle Registration Manager/Supervisor, the ED Registration Representative is responsible for interviewing patients and collecting patient demographic and insurance information in a fast-paced, high-stress Emergency Department environment. Collects necessary patient responsibility payments at the time of registration. Duties also include working closely with insurance, Clinical Staff, Medical Records, and other hospital personnel to ensure patient safety and fiscal reimbursement. Obtains necessary signatures of all required forms and interacts in a professional and courteous manner with fellow staff members and the public at large. As a level two the ED Registration Rep works more independently under the supervision of the Registration leadership and may take a mentorship role for new staff.

Requirements

  • Demonstrate competency in proficiency testing >95%.
  • Maintain at least a 95% QA pass rate in overall account reviews, MSP, and RQA alerts.

Responsibilities

  • Completing FirstNet account discharges, transfers, and status changes.
  • Completing morning and afternoon Preadmissions by designated timeframe as well as surgical late discharges.
  • Performing onsite functions.
  • Training BH ED policies and procedures including Trauma Registration, “JDoe” Registration, Burn reporting, Animal bite reporting, Weapons Related Injury Surveillance System (WRISS), Sexual Assault Nurses Exam (SANE).
  • Performing at least one (1) of the EDR II responsibilities including mentoring, special project, QA review, etc.
  • Performing Flow responsibility.
  • Performing On-Call responsibility.
  • Initiating emergency code procedures via overhead page.
  • Communicating with clinical staff including Charge Nurses and Pod Leads.
  • Analyzing data received from insurance carriers to determine and educate patients about their financial responsibility.
  • Requesting and collecting pre-determined patient responsibility payments by use of an online payment portal.
  • Utilizing payment plan options for patients that cannot afford to make the payment in full.
  • Training successfully in donning and doffing of PPE.
  • Demonstrating knowledge of basic concepts of Infection Control and adapting this knowledge to BH ED environments.
  • Understanding sufficient medical terminology to communicate with clinical staff partners.
  • Managing scheduling changes.
  • Obtaining coverage for missed shifts.
  • Precepting and mentoring level I ED Patient Registration Reps.
  • Utilizing critical thinking skills in the management of crises.
  • Collaborating with management for resolution.
  • Participating and contributing in quality improvements; committee work, staff meetings, participating in audits, and making recommendations for improvements.
