Requirements

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Must have thorough understanding of ICD-10 Official Coding Guidelines for Coding and Reporting and AHA Coding Clinic; HCPCS/CPT coding systems and CPT Assistant and Coding Clinic for HCPCS guidelines.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 1 year clerical/ data entry

  • Certified Coding Specialist (C.C.S.)
  • Certified Professional Coder-Hospital (CPC-H)
  • Certified Coding Associate (CCA)
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)

Responsibilities

  • Ensures that all necessary demographic, and clinical information is obtained and entered in the registration system with timeliness and accuracy.
  • Codes injury severity for all traumatic injuries using doctor/nurses notes and other medical record reports.
  • Assigns appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes.
  • Maintains trauma database, updates database, manages changes and corrections to database.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
