About The Position

American Animal Hospital is a long-standing general practice with deep ties to the community, located in beautiful San Diego, California. Our goal is to provide compassionate and quality medicine while striving to make an impact in our community and treat our patients/clients like family. We are looking to add a full-time Registered Veterinary Technician to our team. The ideal candidate will be a dependable, detail-oriented team player who loves animals and being part of a fun, supportive team. American Animal Hospital is a 3-doctor hospital open from 8:30 am – 6:30 pm Monday through Friday, and 9 am - 1 pm on Saturday, closed on Sundays. We aim to provide owners with sound, honest choices for their pets and to provide our patients with excellent quality medicine and compassionate medical care. We strive to give our customers the best personalized service possible and to create a friendly, professional work environment for our awesome staff!

Requirements

  • Registered Veterinary Technician, the license must be current
  • Knowledge of industry tools and equipment
  • Passion for working with animals and their owners
  • Experience with proper animal handling and restraint
  • Understands the importance of excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Obtaining accurate and thorough medical histories
  • Excellent client communication/education

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years of veterinary experience
  • Experience rooming patients
  • Surgical assisting experience and knowledge of equipment used
  • Drawing blood and running bloodwork
  • Venipuncture
  • Restraint
  • Knowledge of x-ray and proper positioning
  • Experience with proper animal handling and restraint
  • Understanding the importance of client education
  • Being a positive and supportive team member
  • Digital radiology including positioning
  • Dentistry (digital x-rays, scaling, polishing)
  • Anesthesia (induction, intubation, monitoring, aseptic technique)
  • TPR
  • Laboratory skills such as ear and fecal cytology; HM5; Vetscan; Sedivue

Responsibilities

  • Blood draws (cephalic, saphenous, and jugular)
  • Placing IV catheters

  • Dentistry (digital x-rays, scaling, polishing)
  • Anesthesia (induction, intubation, monitoring, aseptic technique)
  • TPR
  • Laboratory skills such as ear and fecal cytology; HM5; Vetscan; Sedivue
