About The Position

Petersen Pet Hospital is hiring a full-time Registered Veterinary Technician to provide skilled patient care and exceptional client service. The role supports veterinarians with examinations, surgery, anesthesia, recovery, and technical procedures, while helping maintain a clean, organized, and safe hospital environment. The schedule is 36–40 hours per week and includes rotating Saturdays. Compensation starts at $20 per hour and is determined by the candidate’s skills, experience, and qualifications.

Petersen Pet Hospital is an AAHA-accredited, Fear Free, pocket-pet-friendly small animal practice in Hiawatha, Iowa, with eight doctors. The practice emphasizes kindness, quality, caring, and low-stress visits for pets and their owners.

Requirements

• Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) certification.
• Ability to handle animals safely and compassionately.
• Knowledge of common disease states and ability to alert veterinarians to changes in patient conditions.
• Familiarity with DEA, OSHA, and hospital safety guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Support veterinarians with patient care, examinations, surgery, anesthesia, and recovery.
• Safely and compassionately handle and restrain animals.
• Communicate clearly with clients, including providing care instructions and status updates.
• Perform technical duties such as laboratory work, radiographs, injections, and IV catheter placement.
• Maintain accurate medical records and assist with medication dispensing.
• Keep exam rooms, treatment areas, and equipment clean, stocked, and ready.
• Follow hospital, safety, and regulatory guidelines.
