About The Position

The City of Hesperia is hiring a Registered Veterinary Technician to work in its Animal Shelter. The role provides medical and veterinary care to shelter animals, supports animal health and treatment, helps maintain medical supplies and equipment, and provides technical direction to Animal Care Technicians. The position also assists with shelter policies and procedures, staff performance evaluations, animal care and facility upkeep, and public animal reclaim and adoption services. Other related duties may be assigned.

Requirements

Any combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for an Animal Care Technician.
A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is six months of experience in an animal care environment involving care, handling, and sheltering of animals, or performance of related work.
High school diploma or GED.
Certification as a Registered Veterinary Technician.
Certification in the euthanasia of animals by injection.

Responsibilities

Provide medical and veterinary care to shelter animals.
Monitor animal health and administer medications.
Coordinate treatment for injured or ill animals with local veterinarians.
Order, maintain, and safeguard medical supplies, equipment, and controlled substances.
Provide technical guidance and direction to Animal Care Technicians.
Assist in developing and implementing shelter policies and procedures.
Assist the Animal Services Supervisor with staff performance evaluations.
Perform animal care, handling, cleaning, and facility maintenance duties.
Assist the public with animal reclaim and adoption services.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
