About The Position

The Registered Ultrasound Technologist performs a variety of ultrasound procedures that require independent judgment with ingenuity and initiative. Essential Job Functions include performing diagnostic ultrasound exams as ordered by providers, using the appropriate transducer to obtain quality images, ensuring transducer disinfection, properly identifying patients, ensuring correct patient information is entered into computer systems, completing exams on the Radiology Software System, and transmitting exams to the Radiologist. The technologist is responsible for maintaining a safe and hygienic work environment, adhering to Health and Safety Policies, and participating in safety programs. They must demonstrate an understanding of Joint Commission Certification (JCC) standards, utilize the PACS work list, explain procedures to patients, and answer their questions. Maintaining an exceptional level of customer service, demonstrating El Rio Health Standards, and using AIDET principles are crucial. The role involves educating patients, providers, and staff on ultrasound procedures, ensuring correct CPT and ICD-10 codes for billing, maintaining professional licensure through ARDMS, and learning new software versions. The technologist contributes to team effort, complies with facility policies (including HIPAA and Compliance), and annually reviews job description and performance goals with the Radiology Manager. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D.).
  • Graduate from an accredited Ultrasound school.
  • Certification from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS) and maintain the ARDMS credentials.
  • Two (2) years’ experience in the OB/GYN field of practice
  • Two (2) years’ experience in a clinic or hospital setting.
  • Certification from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS) and maintain the ARDMS credentials.
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers.
  • Reliable transportation that can meet any operational reassignments of the organization during the workday.
  • If an employee is driving during work hours, the employee is required to possess a valid driver’s license and must comply with Arizona vehicle insurance requirements.
  • Level One Fingerprint Clearance card. A.R.S. 36.425.03. If the prospective employee does not possess this prior to hire, fingerprint application must be completed within 7 days post hire.
  • Level One (1) Non-IVP Fingerprint Clearance card must be received within 30 days after applying for the fingerprint card.
  • Undergo drug testing prior to employment and will be subject to post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return to duty and follow up drug and alcohol testing in compliance with Federal and State regulations for alcohol and controlled substance testing.
  • Employees in positions holding responsibility for the safety and welfare of others will also be classified as safety sensitive.

Responsibilities

  • Performs diagnostic ultrasound exams as ordered by providers in accordance with organization protocols.
  • Uses the appropriate transducer on the body part presented for exam to obtain quality diagnostic images.
  • Ensures that all transducers are properly disinfected as per manufacturer’s recommendations.
  • Properly identifies patient by asking name, date of birth, reason for visit.
  • Ensures that the correct patient / body part is scanned.
  • Ensures that the correct patient information is entered into the various computer programs that record the procedure.
  • Completes the exam on the Radiology Software System provided and transmits the exam to the Radiologist for reading.
  • Provides a work environment safe and free from hazards; immediately address or inform management of safety issues or potential hazards; adhere to Health and Safety Policies and Procedures; participate in all safety programs, which may include assignment to an emergency response team.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and hygienic work environment in compliance with all Policies and Procedures including but not limited to work areas, workstations, examination rooms, hand washing, infection prevention and control etc. for this position
  • Demonstrates an understanding of and proficiency with the application of all compliance and reporting requirements respective to Joint Commission Certification (JCC) standards.
  • Utilizes the PACS work list to expedite the ultrasound procedure.
  • Explains the procedure to the patient and answers patient’s questions.
  • Maintains exceptional level of customer service; address and resolve complaints; serve as an example by providing excellent service to internal and external customers, employees, and patients.
  • Demonstrates and models El Rio Health Standards in all interactions with patients, co-workers, and visitors.
  • Demonstrates service excellence using AIDET principles consistently applied with all patients, community members, co-workers, and colleagues.
  • Annually reviews job description and performance goals with Radiology Manager.

  • Completes work on time
  • Ensures that ultrasound order is correct with the appropriate CPT codes and ICD-10 codes for billing.
  • Maintains professional licensure through ARDMS as required.
  • Continues to learn new software versions as they are available from the various radiology vendors.
  • Contributes to team effort; and complies with all facility policies and procedures including but not limited to those addressing HIPAA and Compliance.
