About The Position

Responsible and accountable for performing quality sleep acquisition and analysis in accordance with the standards set forth by American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM), the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) and American Academy of Sleep Technologist (AAST). This position works within interdisciplinary teams to provide safe and personalized care for the patient. This position leads a specialty area of the department and is responsible for maintaining the highest standards of testing and training of all assigned technologists in the specified area.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 3 years of recent and related experience required.
  • American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) credentials as Registered Polysomnography Technologist (RPSGT), or American Board of Sleep Medicine ABSM) credentials as Registered Sleep Technologist (RST) or National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) credentials as Certified Respiratory Therapist-Sleep Disorders Specialist (CRT-SDS), or Registered Respiratory Therapist - Sleep Disorders Specialist (RRT-SDS).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification or its equivalent required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs high quality diagnostic sleep study testing to assist the physician in the diagnosis of sleep related breathing conditions in accordance with AASM, BRPT, AAST, and departmental policy and procedure.
  • Proficient with analysis of diagnostic sleep study data in accordance with AASM, BRPT, AAST, and departmental policy and procedure.
  • Proficient with the application of all PAP therapies (CPAP, BIPAP, ASV, AVAPS) in accordance to the AASM, insurance requirements and regulations, and department policies and procedures.
  • Prepares and completes all required documentation in a thorough and accurate manner.
  • Provides guidance to less experienced staff to assure high quality testing on all patients while serving as a role model for customer service by providing coaching and feedback.
  • Performs all related responsibilities associated with sleep study testing to include: operating and maintaining equipment in accordance with hospital and department safety policy and procedures.
  • Participates in quality improvement processes on an ongoing basis, including monitoring quality control subjects and results in specific area of responsibility.
  • Completes assigned project work in area of responsibility.
  • Maintains continuing education requirements as outlined by specific credentials through the Board of Registered Polysomnography Technologist (BRPT) and per the accreditation standards through the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM), as well as institutional policies.
