About The Position
The primary job goal of the Nurse is to work to maintain the good health, safety and well-being of students served by the Van Buren ISD and/or the local school district. To this end, the person provides direct service to students and actively participates in the communication of student medical needs with school personnel.
Requirements
- Post-graduate degree from an accredited program
- Valid Michigan RN License required
- Demonstrated competency in core RN clinical and patient care skills
- Ability to assess and respond to a wide range of student health and medical conditions
- Strong communication skills with students, parents, and school personnel
- Reliable attendance and strong organizational skills
- Positive, professional demeanor that supports a welcoming and supportive environment
Nice To Haves
- Previous work experience with children and persons with significant physical disabilities is preferred
Responsibilities
- Participate in educational and medical planning for students with health needs
- Deliver effective, student-centered health services in a school setting
- Provide leadership in developing and implementing school health programs
- Collaborate with parents, staff, and external agencies to support student well-being
- Train staff on required healthcare procedures and maintain accurate documentation
- Maintain consistent and dependable attendance
- Maintain a current RN license and pursue ongoing professional development
- Follow all organizational policies and procedures
- Complete assigned responsibilities within established timelines
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Director of Special Education
