About The Position

Bureau Veritas is seeking a Registered Sanitarian to conduct field inspections of retail food establishments, public swimming pools, spas, and interactive water features throughout Texas. This role involves verifying compliance with state and federal regulations, providing on-site education, and collaborating with the Sanitation Services team. The position is primarily home-office based, utilizing an iPad for inspections, with approximately 50% of work time dedicated to travel to client sites. The Sanitarian will ensure compliance with the Texas Food Establishment Rules, the 2017 FDA Food Code, and the State Standards for Public Swimming Pools and Spas, while delivering exceptional customer service and contributing to program improvements.

Requirements

  • High-school diploma or GED (minimum).
  • 3–5 years of field experience conducting food-service or pool inspections.
  • Registered Sanitarian (Texas) or REHS/RS Credential.
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) – required.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license (Class C or equivalent).
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen, motor-vehicle record check, prior-employment verification, and criminal background check (if applicable).
  • iPad / Mobile Inspection Software – Data entry, photo capture, electronic form completion.
  • Computer Applications – MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Photoshop.
  • Digital Imaging – Use of digital cameras and basic photo-editing for documentation.
  • Technical Writing – Clear, concise inspection reports, correction notices, and educational summaries.
  • Verbal Communication – Explain food-code and pool-code requirements to non-technical audiences.
  • Problem Solving – Identify compliance gaps, develop practical corrective actions, and resolve client concerns.

Responsibilities

  • Receive weekly assignment lists, prioritize visits, and schedule travel using a personal vehicle to retail food establishments, public pools, spas, and interactive water features within the assigned Texas coverage area.
  • Conduct on-site evaluations of retail food facilities to confirm compliance with the Texas Food Establishment Rules and the 2017 FDA Food Code (e.g., food storage, temperature control, sanitation, employee hygiene).
  • Perform inspections of public swimming pools, spas, and interactive water features to verify adherence to the State Standards for Public Swimming Pools and Spas (e.g., water chemistry, filtration, safety equipment, signage).
  • Provide immediate, clear guidance to owners, managers, and staff on corrective actions, best practice sanitation procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Use an iPad to capture photos, record observations, and complete electronic inspection forms in BV’s inspection platform; generate written reports, notices of correction, and compliance certificates as required.
  • Track corrective action status, schedule re-inspections when needed, and confirm that deficiencies have been resolved to code standards.
  • Respond promptly to client inquiries via phone, email, or virtual meetings; maintain professional, courteous interactions and promote BV’s service offerings.
  • Work closely with the Sanitation Services team to share field findings, assist in developing standard operating procedures, and contribute to program consistency across Texas.
  • Recognize emerging public health risks (e.g., allergen control, waterborne pathogens) and notify the Director of Sanitation Services with recommended mitigation actions.
  • Ensure all inspection activities are performed in accordance with state and local regulations, BV policies, and documented SOPs.
  • Participate in periodic training, webinars, and internal reviews; suggest enhancements to inspection forms, educational materials, and workflow processes.
  • Maintain regular, predictable attendance; be available for flexible scheduling (including early morning or evening appointments) to accommodate client needs.
  • Perform any additional tasks assigned by the Director of Sanitation Services or senior management.
