In this purpose-driven role, you will: The Respiratory Therapist (RT) plays an important role in supporting residents with respiratory needs in a skilled nursing and rehabilitation environment. This position evaluates residents and interventions, monitors resident progress, educates staff and families, supports discharge planning, and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to promote quality outcomes and continuity of care.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
  • Active Texas Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license/certificate in good standing required.
  • Current NBRC credential required; Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) preferred.
  • Ability to assess resident needs, communicate effectively, adapt to changing technology, think critically, and work independently as well as part of an interdisciplinary care team.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a skilled nursing facility (SNF), transitional care unit (TCU), long-term care, pulmonary care, tracheostomy care, CPAP/BiPAP, or geriatric setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate residents with respiratory needs, complete pulmonary assessments, and help develop individualized respiratory therapy plans of care.
  • Provide education for nursing staff to support respiratory interventions such as oxygen therapy, breathing treatments, bronchopulmonary hygiene, breathing exercises, CPAP/BiPAP support, and other ordered treatments.
  • Support residents and nursing staff with tracheostomy care, including monitoring, weaning support, downsizing, decannulation support, and related education as clinically appropriate.
  • Monitor residents' responses to therapy, changes in condition, medications, labs, imaging, and treatment orders; recommend updates to the plan of care as needed.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nursing leadership, nurses, therapy teams, social workers, residents, and families to support safe and effective respiratory care.
  • Educate residents, families, caregivers, and facility staff on respiratory care, equipment, medications, safety, and carryover of respiratory programs.
  • Document respiratory care services, assessments, interventions, recommendations, and resident progress accurately and timely.
  • Assist with respiratory equipment needs, maintenance follow-up, troubleshooting, and safe use of respiratory supplies and devices.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by following facility procedures, infection-control protocols, and federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Support ongoing staff education, new employee respiratory training, quarterly and PRN skill checks, annual competencies, and required certifications as needed.
