About The Position

UConn Health is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) to join our fast-paced Respiratory Department in Waterbury. This position provides care to both inpatient and outpatient populations and includes independent operation of the Outpatient Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT) Lab.

Requirements

Associate Degree in Respiratory Care required
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential required
Current Connecticut Respiratory Care Practitioner license required
BLS required
Strong knowledge of respiratory care practices and ability to recognize arrhythmias.
Excellent communication, teamwork, clinical judgment, and patient-care skills.
Commitment to patient confidentiality, advocacy, and compassionate care.
Reliable transportation required for travel between work sites.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor's preferred
ACLS preferred
PFT certification preferred

Responsibilities

Perform PFTs, sputum inductions, ABGs, EKGs, and desaturation studies.
Provide respiratory care treatments and therapies according to physician orders.
Assess patients and develop or modify plans of care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
Operate, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot PFT equipment and body box.
Set up and monitor respiratory equipment including ventilators, BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow oxygen, Bubble CPAP, Heli-Ox, humidifiers, and suction equipment.
Document respiratory services accurately in the EMR.
Manage DME paperwork, patient calls, and follow-up.
Collaborate with pulmonologists to ensure timely completion of diagnostic testing.
Maintain clinical equipment and supplies.
Mentor respiratory therapy students and participate in departmental projects.
Perform other duties as assigned.
