Requirements

  • Diploma from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program
  • Active registration with the provincial regulatory body for Respiratory Therapists (or equivalent)
  • Current HCP-CPR certification (Heart & Stroke Foundation approved)
  • Successful completion of the National certification exam administered by the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT)
  • Current CSRT Liability Insurance and WHMIS training
  • Strong clinical knowledge of patient assessment, care planning, implementation, and evaluation
  • Excellent communication, time management, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills with the ability to empathize and connect with clients
  • High level of independent judgment, discretion, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Physical ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Genuine commitment to lifelong learning, ethics, integrity, and delivering exceptional client service

Responsibilities

  • Assess clients and expertly set up CPAP & BiPAP therapy, including proper mask interface fitting and home CPAP units for optimal comfort and compliance
  • Educate clients and families on their condition, prescribed therapy, equipment use, and safety—providing ongoing follow-up and support
  • Set up, explain, and download sleep diagnostic devices (e.g., ApneaLink) while ensuring accurate results
  • Perform new oxygen and respiratory equipment starts according to physician orders
  • Provide responsive troubleshooting and technical support for all medical devices
  • Manage EMR charting, provincial funding authorizations, insurance paperwork, and maintain full compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Participate in on-call schedules (where applicable) and contribute to efficient daily/weekly scheduling and servicing
  • Help train new Sleep Therapists and support a safe, positive work environment
  • Build lasting relationships with clients, families, and referral sources while upholding the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality
