About The Position

Banner Health is hiring a Registered Respiratory Therapist for Banner University Medical Center Tucson in Tucson, Arizona. The role independently provides respiratory care and pulmonary and cardiology diagnostic testing to patients in a variety of health care settings. The Respiratory Care team serves a high-acuity, diverse patient population and provides services ranging from oxygen therapy to advanced ventilator support, as well as diagnostic testing and emergency medical support, including CPR. The position is full-time, day shift, 36 hours per week. Weekend shifts receive a $3 per hour differential. A $10,000 sign-on bonus is offered to eligible candidates with at least one year of Registered Respiratory Therapist experience.

Banner University Medical Center Tucson is a Level 1 Trauma Center and an academic medical center recognized for patient care, teaching, research, nursing excellence, and specialty services. The position may involve assignment to different areas throughout the system where respiratory care is needed and may include supervising department staff.

Requirements

• Associate or technical degree.
• Proof of passing the National Board for Respiratory Care examination as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT); RRT is required for new hires to the position.
• Current license in the state of practice, as required by state law.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Knowledge of clinical techniques, applications, and equipment, typically gained through one year of clinical experience.
• Effective human relations skills to work with patients, families, staff, and other health care personnel.
• For Banner Registry positions, at least one year of acute-care hospital experience, including work in the specialty as a Registered Respiratory Therapist in an acute-care setting within the past 12 months.
• For Home Care positions, a valid driver's license and eligibility for coverage under the company auto insurance policy.
• For Banner Home Care AZ employees, an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at hire and maintained throughout employment.
• For Nevada incumbents, Blood Gas Technologist certification.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic respiratory care modalities prescribed by physicians or licensed independent practitioners, following department and hospital policies and procedures.
• Apply and manage mechanical ventilators in collaboration with physicians or licensed independent practitioners, recommending adjustments to improve clinical condition and comfort and support weaning.
• Assemble, disassemble, operate, maintain, troubleshoot, clean, and adjust durable medical equipment and circuitry used to deliver respiratory care.
• Perform prescribed pulmonary and cardiology diagnostic testing.
• Assess patients, evaluate their responses to care, and recommend changes to the plan or therapy as clinical conditions change.
• Accurately and completely document respiratory therapy provided.
• Communicate and collaborate with resource staff on care plans, therapy recommendations, and identifying and resolving problems.
• May supervise department staff.
• Provide respiratory care and diagnostic testing across a variety of health care settings and, as assigned, areas throughout the system.
