About The Position

Banner Health is hiring a Registered Respiratory Therapist for Banner University Medical Center Tucson - South Campus. The Respiratory Therapy department emphasizes teamwork, collaboration, and mutual support. As an academic medical center, staff may interact with medical students, provide input and feedback, and assist with academic studies. Opportunities include professional growth and cross-training in the Banner University Medical Center Tucson ICUs, with support for both campuses as needed.

The role independently provides respiratory care and pulmonary and cardiology diagnostic testing to patients in a variety of healthcare settings. The therapist performs prescribed respiratory care, manages mechanical ventilation in collaboration with clinicians, operates and maintains respiratory equipment, assesses patients and their responses to care, recommends care-plan or therapy changes, documents care, and collaborates with the healthcare team. The position may include supervising department staff and assignment to different areas across the system.

This is a full-time position working 36 hours per week on the night shift, described in the posting as three 12-hour shifts from 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Four weekend shifts per schedule period are required. The posting offers a $10,000 hire-on incentive for full-time RRTs with at least one year of respiratory experience, an 18% night-shift differential, a $3 weekend differential, and access to health, financial, and security benefit plans.

Requirements

• Associate or technical degree.
• Proof of passing the National Board for Respiratory Care examination as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
• Current license in the state of practice, as required by state law.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Knowledge of clinical techniques, applications, and equipment, typically obtained through one year of clinical experience.
• Highly effective interpersonal skills to work with patients, families, staff, and other healthcare personnel.
• At least one year of respiratory experience for eligibility for the advertised full-time hire-on incentive.
• For Banner Registry positions, at least one year of experience in an acute-care hospital setting, including work in an acute-care setting within the past 12 months as an RRT in the specialty area.
• For Home Care positions, a valid driver's license and eligibility for coverage under the company's auto insurance policy.
• For Banner Home Care AZ employees, an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at hire and maintained throughout employment.
• For Nevada incumbents, Blood Gas Technologist certification.
• Work three 12-hour shifts per week and four weekend shifts per schedule period.

Responsibilities

• Perform prescribed basic respiratory-care modalities in accordance with department and hospital policies and procedures.
• Apply and manage mechanical ventilators with physicians or licensed independent practitioners; recommend adjustments to improve clinical condition and comfort and support weaning.
• Assemble, disassemble, operate, maintain, troubleshoot, clean, and adjust durable medical equipment and circuitry used to deliver respiratory care.
• Perform prescribed pulmonary and cardiology diagnostic testing.
• Assess patients and evaluate their response to care; recommend changes to the care plan or respiratory therapy as clinical conditions change.
• Document therapy accurately and completely in accordance with department and hospital policies and procedures.
• Communicate and collaborate with resource staff and the interdisciplinary healthcare team to formulate care plans, recommend therapy changes, and identify and resolve problems.
• May supervise department staff.
• Provide respiratory care and diagnostic testing in a variety of healthcare settings and areas across the system as assigned.
